CASE 1. Lost Passports of 5 High School Seniors
Way back when I was working at a travel agency!
I once sold and handled an airtel package for 5 male high school seniors who had just finished their college entrance exams.
I got parental consent forms, answered their questions, and they departed. Since I didn't hear from them, I assumed they had a smooth trip... but then I got a call the day before their return.
They said they had lost their passports...And they had all lost them together, packed in the same bag..
CASE 2. Unexpected March Snowfall
In March, of all months! LOL, there was a heavy snowfall that caused highway closures... and JR trains were also suspended..
Customers who were in Yufuin and Beppu were unable to travel to Fukuoka, and couldn't get to the airport.
CASE 3. A Story I Saw Recently on a Japanese Travel Cafe
Someone posted that they lost their passport and didn't know what to do, and many experts in that cafe LOL
were helping solve the issue with collective intelligence and a flurry of comments LOL
(I have great respect for those experts!!)
All three cases (CASE 1-3) were resolved with the help of the embassy and consulate!
So, when you encounter a sudden crisis overseas (lost passport, traffic accident, crime victimization, natural disaster, etc.)
who should you contact for the best help? Who can resolve it most effectively? You should contact the local embassy or consulate!
You can find the embassy and consulate websites for each country through the link above.
Since my planned trip is to Kyushu, I visited the website of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Fukuoka.
I could immediately find the emergency contact information!
If you go to News > Notices, you can find information on how to respond to incidents and accidents, and get accurate information.
I was surprised by their helpfulness, as they even provide detailed instructions on how to fill out a lost report form and even list major hospitals in the area.
(The thoughtful detail is quite unexpected from South Korea, usually known for being fast and unfriendly..🧡)
For frequent travelers, orthose who are responsible for others!(like traveling with parents or children)
It might be a good idea to take a look before you travel!
