I've compiled a list of tourist attractions related to Studio Ghibli.
(Among those in Tokyo, only the ones I want to visit lol)
Source is at the bottom
If you haven't been able to reserve tickets for the Ghibli Museum or have already visited, you might want to check out other attractions!
Ghibli Museum
A must-visit for Ghibli fans! While it's disappointing that taking photos inside is prohibited, you can capture some amazing shots at the photo spots outside.
Regarding Ghibli Museum Reservations
To make a reservation for the Ghibli Museum, you need to sign up for Lawson Ticket (ローチケ), which requires a VPN and apparently you need to enter a local address... it's a bit complicated.
1. Search the internet and follow instructions to make a reservation
2. Use a proxy purchase service: It's said to be significantly more expensive haha
3. Purchase tickets locally, which seems to be another option.
If I absolutely must go → Option 1
If I'm indifferent to visiting → Option 3
Reservations are required for the Ghibli Museum. (Fully reservation-based / Designated date and time for entry)
I visited in 2016 when reservations were possible without a VPN. Please refer to my old post for a 2016 review!
Edo-Tokyo Museum
It's said to be the model for the setting of Spirited Away. You can see details like the bathhouse and pharmacy.
Refer to my previous post!
Nittele Big Clock (日テレ大時計)
▲Karakuri Clock Image Sketch / Source: Studio Ghibli Official Website
It was designed by Hayao Miyazaki and the Ghibli team. It's said to move with music at set times. The moving times are listed on the official website.
Ghibli Exhibition
You can see currently held exhibitions hosted by Studio Ghibli.
It seems that they don't just hold it in one place, but rather tour various locations in Japan.
You can check the region and period by going to the tour information.
It's a good idea to check in advance whether there's one during your travel dates!
Apparently it's being held in Kobe from April 15th to June 25th, 2023!
Below are souvenir shops and other stores!!
Don Quijote Republic (どんぐり共和国)
This souvenir shop has a wide variety of Ghibli goods, and there are branches all over Japan, so
just search for どんぐり共和国 on Google Maps and go!
Shirohige's Cream Puff Workshop (白髭のシュークリーム工房)
▲Totoro Cream Puff / Source: Official Website
A place where you can enjoy cute Totoro cream puffs! They also sell Totoro cookies and cakes.
It's the only shop officially recognized by Studio Ghibli because Hayao Miyazaki's family runs it.
Since I'm not part of the director's family, there could be copyright issues, so haha
Official WebsitePlease check the website for information. There are two shops in Tokyo!
① Yoshida Shop ② Kichijoji Shop
Ghibli Park
Lastly, not in Tokyo, but in Nagoya, there's Ghibli Park!
▲Ghibli Park Phase 1 Map
The reason I added 'Phase 1' is probably because some areas are still not open to the public.
There's a message at the bottom right saying to look forward to Phase 2!
It's a designated-date reservation system. Tickets for March were said to go on sale on December 10th at 2 PM. (First-come, first-served)
Since not all areas of the park are open yet, let's wait a little longer and visit when it's fully open!!
Besides these, there are places like Sayama Hills and Sakuragaoka Station, but I didn't include them because they're outside of Tokyo.
(You can see the translated page at the bottom.)
Well, that's all for now!
